Christian Iddon

Christian Iddon, born on January 7, 1985 in Stockport (Greater Manchester, England), is a British motorcycle racer with the number 46, who is considered one of the most consistent and versatile riders in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB). The son of former racing driver Paul Iddon, he grew up in a motorcycle-loving family and began his career in supermoto, where he showed early talent. At the age of 18, he won his first British Supermoto title and established himself as the “Dirt Monkey” – a nickname that reflects his off-road roots. Iddon made his debut in the British Supersport Championship in 2006 and quickly rose to the BSB, where he has competed for teams such as Relentless Suzuki, Tyco BMW, Honda Racing and Ducati Panigale V4 R since 2008. His international foray led to a brief but memorable debut in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) with Bimota in 2014, which was marred by technical problems. His involvement in the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) is particularly noteworthy: in 2018, he rode for the Wepol Racing by Penz13.com team in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he reached the podium (3rd place) with teammates Michael Laverty and Danny Webb – despite crashes and technical problems. Iddon is known for his tactical intelligence, emotional depth (he often dedicates victories to his late brother) and family ties: he is married to Nicola and father of Toby. His motto: “In the endless pursuit for success” – a principle he has lived by in over 200 races, including victories in BSB and podiums in support series. Off-track, he is committed to motorcycle safety and youth development, for example through camps. At the age of 40 (2025), he celebrated his first BSB victory with Kawasaki and established himself as a title contender. His philosophy: “Racing is more than speed—it’s heart and teamwork.”

Iddon’s career has been dominated by BSB consistency and Supermoto dominance. He has claimed nine British Supermoto titles and multiple BSB podiums. Here’s a summary of the highlights (not exhaustive; based on BSB, WorldSBK, and EWC stats):

Notes on his successes: Iddon’s nine Supermoto titles (2003–2012) are his foundation; in BSB, he is a consistent top-5 finisher (3rd in 2020, 2nd in 2024). The 2014 WorldSBK season was short; the 2018 EWC podium at Le Mans with Penz13 was a highlight. The 2025 victory at Assen was his first with Kawasaki.

Contract with Penz13 and races during this time

In 2018, Christian Iddon signed a one-year contract with the German BMW team Wepol Racing by Penz13.com (managed by Rico Penzkofer), specializing in EWC and road racing. The deal covered the 2017/18 FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) season on the BMW S 1000 RR (#13), with a focus on the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Penz13 selected the 33-year-old Iddon for his BSB experience and BMW background, complementing Michael Laverty (GBR) and Danny Webb (GBR). The contract marked Iddon’s EWC debut and followed a team podium finish at the Bol d’Or (2nd place, September 2017); he contributed tactical stints and assisted with recovery from crashes. The cooperation ended after 2018, as Iddon prioritized BSB. Penz13 praised him in her timeline as a “team fighter.”

Racing with Penz13 (2018): Iddon participated in an EWC race; the team qualified top 5 and achieved a podium despite challenges.

  • FIM EWC – 24 Hours of Le Mans (April 21–22, 2018): 3rd overall (#13 BMW S 1000 RR). Line-up: Iddon, Laverty, Webb. Despite crashes by Laverty (early race, handlebar clip broken) and Webb (night, shoulder dislocation), the team recovered thanks to perfect pit work; Iddon’s decisive stints; podium finish after 24 hours – second in a row after the Bol d’Or.

The season cemented Penz13’s reputation (4th in the team rankings); Iddon’s contribution was essential to the “fighting spirit” success.

Current and future plans

As of September 28, 2025 (age 40), Christian Iddon is fully committed to the 2025 Bennetts BSB season: He is a regular rider for the AJN Steelstock Kawasaki team on the ZX-10RR and celebrated his first victory in Assen Race 2 (Sep. 21-22, 2025) – a pole-to-flag triumph in the rain ahead of Bradley Ray. This was his debut win with Kawasaki after switching from Ducati/Honda; he is top 3 in the standings and chasing the title. Iddon recently appeared on the Off Track Podcast (Sep. 16, 2025), where he spoke about “seething” emotions after races. He tests regularly (e.g., Donington Prep) and is involved in camps for young riders. On Instagram, he posts about family and sponsors such as Alpinestars (e.g., Toby photos Sep. 2025). Privately, he balances racing with his fatherly role: “Toby is my biggest fan.”

Future plans: Iddon plans to continue BSB racing with Kawasaki until 2027 (goal: 2026 title). Possible wildcard entry: 2026 WorldSBK (Assen). Long-term: Expanding as a pundit (TNT Sports starting in 2026) and establishing an academy (starting in 2027). “BSB title and family – that’s my focus” – quote from podcast (September 2025). No retirement: “Racing until 45!”
